# 눈 많이 와

눈 계속 오네

예전에 눈 보면서 홍차 마시면서 마카롱 먹었던 게 기억나서 오랜만에 홍차를 마셨다

거의 반년 만이다

여름쯤부터 커피를 마시기 시작해서 홍차를 한동안 안 마셨거든

눈이 계속 오는데

점점 눈 결정이 작아져서

안 오는 건가 싶다가도

자세히 보면 계속 오고 있는데

그게 내가

오고 있는 거로 생각하고 보니 그렇게 보였던 건가

싶어서 다시 보면

또 멈춘 것 같다가도

눈 계속 오는데 내가 잘못 본 거로 생각한 건가

싶어서 다시 보면 계속 오고 있다

어릴 때 살던 곳은 눈이 많이 오지 않는 지역이라

눈 오는 게 되게 특별했다

눈이 오는 거 자체가 되게 특별하고

눈이 많이 와서 조금 쌓인 해를 몇 년 지나고도 기억할 정도로

특별했는데

집 근처 언덕에서 썰매 타고 놀았었는데

한 번은 생일날 외식하고 집에 돌아가는 길에 눈이 많이 왔는데

나는 생일에 눈 온다고 엄청 좋아했는데

집에 가는 길에 약간 가파른 곳을 통해 가야 했어

차들이 거기 가다가 미끄러워서 가지도 못하고 돌아가지도 못하고 서 있는 걸 보고

결국 고민하다가 우회해서 갔던 게 생각난다

그때 나는 어려서 잘 몰라서

그냥 내려서 뒤에서 차 밀면 안 돼?

라고 했었어.

# The Naming of Cats

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there’s the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey—
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter—
But all of them sensible everyday names,
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that’s particular,
A name that’s peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum—
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there’s still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover—
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
