하데스타운은 정말 미친 뮤지컬이다.
이 ‘미친’ 앞에 온갖 과격한 비속어를 붙여도 모자랄 정도로 진짜 미쳤다.
5/20~6/5까지 부산 드림씨어터에서 공연이 열린다.
서울에서 공연할 때 이미 여러 번 봤는데, 최근에 넘버를 계속 들으면서 가사를 곱씹게 되고, 그러다 보니 정말 너무 보고 싶어서 결국 부산에 가게 됐다.
이 글을 보는 누군가가 혹시 하데스타운을 볼까 말까 고민 중이시라면 꼭 보시라고 말씀드리고 싶다.
하데스타운이 왜 미친 뮤지컬인지에 대해서 하나하나 적고 싶었지만, 파면 팔수록 미친 부분이 계속 생겨나서 이걸 다 서술하는 게 불가능하다는 걸 깨달았다.
그리고, 너무나도 아름다운 이 작품을 도저히 말로 설명할 수가 없다. 그냥 느끼고 감탄할 수밖에…!
그러면서 문득 평론가들이 하는 일이 이런 거구나, 하고 또 깨달아버렸다.
그래도 내가 이 작품에서 좋아하는 포인트를 몇 가지만 소개해보려고 한다.

밴드에서 드럼을 제외한 모든 연주자가 무대 위에서 연주하는데, 그래서 연주하는 모습을 보는 것도 재밌다.
나는 바이올린을 오랫동안 해서 바이올리니스트께 특히 집중하게 되는데 하 정말... 그냥 미쳤다.
<Wedding Song>에서 짧게, <His Kiss, the Riot>에서 하데스가 결정을 내리기 직전, <Doubt Comes In>에서 일정한 박자로 계속 나오는 부분 등 중간중간 바이올린 소리가 두드러지는 부분에서 연주하시는 모습을 보면 너무 좋고, 특히 중간에 피치카토를 강하게 하는 부분이나, <His Kiss, the Riot>의 도입부에서 기괴한 소리를 내는 부분에서는 어떻게 연주하시는지 보면 진짜 너무 멋있다. ㅠㅠ

<Chant>에서 오르페우스가 노래를 작업하는 부분에서 계속 '라라라라라라'로 똑같이 노래하지만, 초반에는 시, 미, 라, 레, 솔에 플랫이 들어가고, 그러다 파, 도, 솔, 레에 샤프가 들어가는 걸로 바뀌는 거 같다.
어릴 때 바이올린 선생님께, 예를 들어 레샤프과 미플랫은 물리적으로 같은 음인데 이런 식으로 구분해놓는 이유가 뭐냐고 여쭤봤다.
사실 더 웃긴 건 더블샤프다. 예를 들어 레 더블샤프 == 미인데, 그럴 거면 그냥 미를 쓰면 되지 않나 싶었다.
그때 선생님의 대답은, 결국 같은 음이라도 이게 어떤 음을 어떻게 꾸며서 나온 결과인지는 다르기 때문이라는 거였다.
예전에는 그 말이 이해가 잘 안됐는데, <Chant>의 이 부분을 들으면서 깨달았다.
모두 똑같이 반음이 올라가거나 내려간 것들인데, 앞부분은 들으면 플랫이라는 느낌이 그냥 확 오고, 뒷부분은 샤프라는 게 바로 느껴진다.
하 진짜 미친 뮤지컬이다. ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

음악의 몰입감이 정말 엄청나다. 가만히 듣고 있으면, 이 넘버에서의 무대가 정말 그냥 그려진다.
그래서 더 보고 싶은 거 같다. 이 곡에서 이게 어떤지 아니까 그걸 또 느끼고 싶어서!
이번에 다시 보면 진짜 눈물 왕왕 흘릴지도 모른다.

작품에서 계속 지상 세계의 이야기를 하다가 하데스가 왕인 지하세계로 배경이 전환된다.
<Epic II>에서 오르페우스가 하데스에 대한 노래를 부르면서 그가 만든 지하세계에 대해 이야기할 때 무대가 열리면서 무대가 지하세계로 바뀌고 넘버가 <Chant>로 전환되는 게 진짜 미쳤다.

처음 보면 운명의 여신들은 대체 뭐 하는 사람들 (아ㅋㅋ 사람이 아니구나. 신이구나)인가 하는 생각이 든다.

말 그대로
우리의 머릿속을 휘젓고 다니는 사람들이다.
처음에는 에우리디케랑 오르페우스를 괴롭히는 것처럼 보이지만, 중간에 하데스의 머릿속을 휘젓기도 하고 심지어 관객들에게도 날카로운 말을 한다.
오르페우스가 하데스에게 'Can we go?'라고 물었을 때 하데스는 예상과 다르게 'I don't know.'라고 답한다.
이때 분위기가 갑자기 확 바뀌면서 (이것도 진짜 미친 포인트다 ㅠㅠㅠㅠ) 운명의 여신들이 까불기 시작한다.
If you tell him no
Oh, you're a heartless man
And you're gonna have a martyr on your hands
If you let him go
Oh, you're a spineless king
And you're never gonna get 'em in line again

벽은 견고해 보이지만 결국 귀가 있었고, 오르페우스의 노래를 듣고 일하기를 멈춘다.
그러고 보면 <Wait for Me>에서부터 하데스타운을 찾아가는 오르페우스의 노래를 company가 따라부른다. 다들 고개를 숙이고 일하고 있지만 그래도 귀는 있었던 거야.

아무것도 필요 없고 그냥 walk beside me 해달라고 했는데, 하데스가 딱 그걸 못하게 했다.
